SST How It Works

The Cold Spray process utilizes compressed air as a carrier gas with pressures ranging between 5.5 bar to 17.2 bar (80 psi to 250 psi). The carrier gas is heated within the gun to temperatures up to about 600°C.
The powders used with the Cold Spray process typically include ceramics. The majority of these ceramic particles do not become entrapped within the coating because they are sprayed at particle velocities well below their critical velocity. The role of the ceramics is to act as a "hammer" for increasing the density of the coating as well as improving the deposition efficiency. Deposition efficiencies with the Low Pressure Cold Gas-Dynamic Spray process typically do not exceed 50%.
