CenterLine does not currently offer personnel protective
equipment (gloves, filters, helmets), masking materials,
finishing supplies, and the like. Please feel free to
contact us if you need help in specifying or locating
these items.
Personal Protective Equipment
The required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is
going to depend on what the exposure to the hazards is.
If you are unsure you can consult OSHA 1910 for the
requirements of blasting applications or other
applicable codes or standards.
For manual spraying
applications in open air, the following personal
protective equipment items are recommended in addition
to standard safety equipment:
-
Adequate eye
protection, to prevent exposure of the eyes against
dust, flying objects, and particles.
-
Adequate
respiratory protection, if powder or dust
contamination is present.
-
Appropriate
gloves and clothing, to protect against cuts,
abrasions, and contact with powder.
Masking Materials
Because the cold
spray process requires significant energy to be
transmitted by the particle to the substrate, reflected
particles do not have sufficient velocity to stick. In
many cases, overspray is simply not a problem. Masking
is more commonly applied to help contain the dust and
reduce the clean-up effort. In this regard, the normal
practices used with other blasting processes such as
sand blasting, will work just fine. If you need masking
materials in your application then please contact us and
we will share our experience with you.
Finishing Materials
Because Cold Spray is used to apply homogeneous
high-density coatings the finishing materials are the
same as those generally required to work with the
wrought or cast metal. One of the unique aspects of the
process is that we can spray composite material coatings
that have the beneficial properties, such as to make
finishing easier. As an example, whereas aluminum or
zinc may smear when it is filed or sanded, we can add
another material that helps to alleviate the problem. In
any case, if you need help with finishing please contact
us to learn of our experience.
